Sat & Sun

29 May 2004 Sat
things I Did today
1) Went to Chapter 2 for haircut and treatment, hairdresser had to cut off 2 inches of my hair due to split end. AIyah.. like that how can I grow long hair. Average hair growth is 1cm per month. Yet every month, I have to cut off more than 3 cm ...
Gek Sim lar.......

2) Meet L2 at Marina GV . Supposed to watch Troy, but at that point of time (1.30pm) , the seats for the 2pm show were all taken except the first row. So changed to SHREK2 instead. Funny leh, for the 2.10pm show, there still left quite a number of seats. Thought Troy has been showing on screen longer than Shrek2, yet the response is greater than the latter.
Well, L2 actually suggest watching Shrek2 last week, but though i dun mind, i prefer watching Troy. Until Friday, I presume we are going to watch Shrek, when he told me he thought I wanna watch Troy, so he had arrange to watch Shrek2 with is friends.

So turn one big round, still watch Shrek2 in the end....

It was fun identifing the scenes and characters from fairytales that appeared in the movie. I guess one must read abt the fairytales when he/she was young-- "Puss in boots', "Sleeping Beauty", "Hansel & Gretal", "thumbelina", "Cinderella", "Little Red Riding hood", "Gingerbread Man", "Pinnochio", "Peter Pan" ...

hahahaha, i like the part where the Prince Charming commented that the
wolf had "indentity crisi". Cos the wolf always dressed in a grandma's frocks (remember the big bad wolf in "little Red Ridinghood"?). & this wolf is also the same wolf from "the 3 little Pigs', as you can see him huff and puff at a later scene.

Not to mention that cool-looking Puss-in-Boots, who will pretend to look so cute and innocent (imagine those cartoon cats with big adorable eyes) in front of the enemies, before attacking them.

If you haven't watch Shrek2 yet,and going to watch, do watch out for those scenes mimicking at other movies, like the kissing scene from Spiderman (Shrek hung upside down and Fiona kisses him"; the part where the big Ginger black man stomping towards the Castle and the giuards throwing fireballs at it is made with refence to the scene in Lord of the Rings where the Giant Trees stomping towards the castle. And off course, the classic scene from "Mission impossible" -- watch out for Pinnochio for this one

30 May 2004, Sun/
Spend around half of the day at SPH, for the camp meeting.
well, at least those members who participate in the camp weren't as nerdy as we expect. So it's very difficult to imagine the nerdy, shy shy type dancing the Indian, comical & hip hop dance that we choreographed. One of the was even a cheerleader in her school, who taught the rest her chearleading dance (which replace the hip hop).

Yawn.....Very tired. going to bed now.

trouble...

Really can't beileve it when my told me that my brother had gotten himself into trouble by involving in a fight with classmate. He hit that classmate and giving him a bad bruise and bleeding from the cut.

huh, my brother who's so timid that he's scared of ordering food from hawkers (and even if he do, he spoke in a soft voice or just point to what he want), can get involve in a fight.

Mum was told that the boy snatched my brother's things and somehow my brother fought back. Discipline master called both parents and told them both will get public caning in class tomorrw. However my mum had to pay for the boy's medical fee.

Discipline master also asked the boy's dad whether he want to make police report. However the boy's father replied that he'll need to discuss with his wife when he reaches home an his wife is rather calculative. (uh-oh... just hope that they won't).

Sister told me a more detailed version when she came home. Cos my brother first gave his teacher my sis tel number and the teacher told her apparently, my brother somehow found a rod from a chair and hit the boy on his head, which caused the injury. And my bro told her that he was so angry from being bullied, as he put it "我忍他忍很久了"

sigh....

Dance and Suay (yeah, not "sway")

Yeah , no pun intended, I really want to write about how "suay" (unlucky) I am today. However, I shall first talk abt what happened over the weekend.

Dance

Just as Bollywood stars were in town over the weekend to attend the Indian Film Acadamy Awards, I was also busy choreographing "Indian dance" with a friend on Sunday.

In summary, my friend and I are in charge of the camp performance. Around 30 members from my club will be heading north to Malaysia to attend a camp. As "guests" , we still have to put up a performance for them. One of our performance is a medley of dance, despicting the Multi-racial Singapore. So we'd choosen the song 神奇 by Sun Yanzi for the Indian dance, a hokkien song 一支小雨伞 for an "action, comical dance" and a fast track "Over Protected' by Britney Spears for a Hip Hop dance.

Cham lor, we dunno Indian dance, but still have to choreograph. No coconut tress as props leh. Hahaha. Just hope that whatever gestures we made with our hands don't represent vulgarities.

Spent more than 5 hours at friend's house, but only managed to complete 2 and 1/2 of the 3 songs. As time is running late, and my eyes were strained from my loped-sided spectacles (one of the plastic nose support had fallen off), I really can't tolerate any longer and had to leave my friend to continue with the choreography.

Monday -- Suay

As mentioned, the nose support piece of my spectacles had fallen off and by the time I reached home yesterday, all the shops were closed. So was thinking of repairing it afer work at the optic shop near my home instead of the optic shop at Parkway Parade where I did my specs.

Duh. The lady at the optical shop told me they can replace the nose support piece of my Francois Pinton frame is a special piece, and need a special type of nose support. She suggested that i go back to my optical shop to do it.

Rushed home for dinner, already felt so pissed off that I need to rush out to Parkway Parade. However, kennna scolded by my mum for being so troublesome. Hey, I paid for my spectacles myslef, not as it I'm asking her to pay, and it was she who told us then not to go to our family optician from Toa Payoh that we had been going for year as their rates are still quite high. That's why I had asked my friend to take me to his family optician's to have my spectacles made, as he can get a better rate.
How would I expect after 1.5 yrs, the spectacles will need special parts upon repair?

Had to rush out (it was already past 7pm then)to catch and change buses to get to Parkway. In case you're wondering why I didn't take a cab, it's because my mum will start scolding and insulting me that I waste money on cab fare.

Managed to reach the shop 30 mins before they closed.

Was really frantic when two sales staff commented that they don't have that piece of plastic for my model. Until another one took a look and say he could modify the nose support piece of another model to fit into my frame, however I'll have to wait for him after he had finished his current job.

While waiting, another sale staff suddenly came over and took off my classes and examined it. He claimed that another model's nose piece could fit into my frame, just that my original is plastic, while that's rubber. Count it on my luck that the boss of this Lensman optic shop opened another optic shop by the name of The Eye Side which houses different brand/models of spectacles at a few shops across. So walked over to have my glasses fixed-- for free.

Passed by a pasar malam at Ang Mo Kio, so brought a pack of muah chee and a pack of steamed nuts, for my family to snack on.

BUT when I reached home, they were either alseep or going to sleep.

So...that leave me to eat up all the stuff.

Argghhhhhhh ...... the extra calories.......

The Search for Retro Foods

The "Retro Food" actually refers to the childhood snacks.
Well, the story actually goes like this:

Yesterday, saw that my colleague ha those colour coated chocolate candies in those figure 8 aluminium wrappers, and was surpised that these are still available.

Another colleague was also surprised and she even played with them-- put the "8" packaging over her eyes,as if she's wearing mask.

yah, many of us used to do that when we were young, and the 8-shaped packaging filled perfectly across our SMALLER faces then.

and it led to a discussion:

"I still can find KaKa (the corn snacks in a red packaging, with a cartoon of a rooster on it)"
"Got Chickadee?"
"What's That?"
" A green package lah"
"By the way, now Kaka still selling at $0.20 a pack, but no more free toy"
"Huh..... (Disappointed)"
" Still selling the xiao ding dang snack"
" Nvm lah, ciao ding dang not nice to eat"
"I want Bee Bee, that shop still got sell?"
" dun think so leh, but now not at 10 cents a pack liao".

hmm, if u have no idea what we are refering, well, chances are either u are from a different generation or you were deprived of snacks as a child.

Anyone have clues where to get Chickadee and Bee Bee in Singapore?

Lian Yong Bao

haha, forgive me for that title, cos i really dunno what to write.

If u had read in my previous blog regarding nicknames, you'd have know that one of my friend (ex-colleague)'s nic is Lian Yong Bao.

Today , after meeting, "egg tart" secretly went over to my desk and tell me that Lian Yong Bao got access to her family car today and is meeting us for lunch. Initial plan was to eat Tom yam at nearby canteen, but since she's driving, might as well go down to the dim sum stall a few bus stops from our work place for lunch.

Sign... "har gao" can't make it, but 3 of us still ordered quite a lot-- 2 plates of Chee cheong fan, dumpling soup (10 big ones for only $4), century egg porridge, 6 fei cai dumplings and 3 prawn dumplings.

In the end we're so full that there's half a plate of chee cheong fan, and 3 dumplings left there , uneaten...

yeah, I plead guilty for wasting food.

Events over the weekend

Sat 15 May

Morning, was awaken by my brother's exclamation "Diego had died!".

Well, mentioned in an earlier blog entry that Diego is our pet terrapin.

For the past few days, Diego had not been eating. We also can't find the reason why. Search for information from the internet that it's a serious case when terrapins show signs of decreasing activity, eyes closed and not eating. However, Diego was still rather active. On Friday nite, when we let it out to crawl, it crawled quite fast and even dare to crawl up to my brother's and my palms. It was only until late night, that I saw that one of it's eyes closed and it flipped over. I put it back and went to sleep.

Brother asked me to clear the tank as he was going out, and I saw that it was flipped . Didn't know that when terrapins die, they also 四脚朝天 ( four legs facing the sky).....

Am feeling quite sad......

Sat Afternoon

Went to a 'colleague function". Nah it was just that my colleague ( my friend, "har gao") invite a bunch of colleagues and I to her condo's guest house to chill out. Watch movies and makan.
We're very obedient, so no beers no party. Hahaha

Watched Love Actually DVD, the uncut version. ( I din manage to catch it at the cinemas them). Quite a touching movie. I guess I would have cried if I watched it in the cinema . It was hilarious watching the Prime Minister ( Hugh Grant) dancing across the rooms. My friend went to excuse herself at the scene where the guy professing his love for his best friend's wife by showing her the placecards at her doorstep on Christmas.(yeah , that was a very sad & touching scene).

After the movie, caught Channel U's premiere variety show " The Next Big Thing",and then, we watched another movie on VCD-- ET.

Even though ET is a classic movie, yet lot of us have not seen it. That's was why our "Har Gao' arrange for this movie chill out session. hmm, dun think ET is cute leh, but watching the young Drew Barrymore in that movie really made us shouted "Sooooo cute!!" everytime she appeared.

Polar Bears

was playing with my camera phone today.
Took pictures of all my TY polars bears collection.

yup i like polar bear. collected 5 out of the 6 polar bears from TY beanies. The one which i didn't collect is because there's isn't any stock left, and it (Snowy) had become so rare that a toy shopowner told me that i can search for it at ebay, but it cost around $500

Polar bears soft toys are rather hard to find, hence I need not spend too much on my collection. But i dun collect all polar bear soft toys, like the coke cola polar bear toys, which look too flimsy.

anyway, here are the descriptions of the polar bears i have in my collection:

1) Paws -- a big polar bear given by my first boyfriend (then) in chirstmas 2001. Cute black eyes.
2) Fridge -- the usual small TY beanie which cost $9.90
3) Baby Iceberg --this classic TY beanie (bigger than the usual $9.90 ones,
but smaller than Paws) specially imported from US by the
toy shopowner who knew I collected Polar Bears. think the
original price was $19.90, but it is a collectable and plus the
shipping charges, i bought it at $39.90.
4) Aurora -- the usual small TY beanie.
5) snowdrift -- bought it at $10 last Sun (2 May). Just happen to come
across it while shopping at the Edge. It is the only polar bear with a red cap.

Panasonic X66-- my reward for myself :P

Oh, yah yah, had not been posting for past few days. Everyday, reach home after work, settle my stuff and do work until 2-3midnight, wake up at 5.30am daily... Where to find time to write my blog...

well, after yesterday (29 April) night, finally finished what i had to do for today.

Anyway, it was during office that my old nokia 3210's (which i had been so loyal to it for 3 yrs and 10 months) battery level drop so drastically that i finally decided to buy the "2nd best choice" of mobile phone which i had been aiming for -- panasonic X66. Cos got camera, and small enough so that i can hang on my neck to minimise the chances of dropping the phone. ( i really got butter fingers. my friends had seen how many times i drop my nokio phone until the sim card came out)

quite a bargain, i guess the shop is the only one that offer the phone under 2 yrs Singtel contract at $298. Actually quite afraid that the sales staff there might be a bit "ah beng", however the one who served me proved me wrong as he can spoke fluent english and really very professional . Even gave me a discount after i bought the handfree, pouch and car charger ( a set at only $38) without me needing to ask, and didn't charged me for the phone neckstrap which i wanted to buy.

that's why my sis said, buy phones from HDB retail shops is better than from the operators' shop.
