my new work place
Ok, admit had been pushing this 'report' for some days. But right now, it's still "starting up" and "settling down" period, hence nothing much interested to write.
report to work last tue, 1 Feb. Well for the corporate support department, there are two MSO ( including me) and a CSO (an "auntie" who is same age as my mum) . Right now, we are sitting together with 2 PAs ( who also belonged to the "mummy category").
Hence I am the youngest there. Luckily the other MSO is only 3 yrs older than me, and we clicked. So we two "相依为命". We two are the lively ones, for we are the ones who dare to bring and listen to radios and play mp3s on our laptops while working. Though I can blast out music as I did in my previous work place. We also tried ways to install MSN Messenger. Only to found out that pop up windows are blocked by out company server. Luckily we are still able to use the online version of MSN messenger.
Was quiet afraid of our boss, for she spoke with such firmness, and stressed on efficiency and being sytematic. ( Well, heard that she was an ex- district judge). But unlike some bosses who only know how to talk but don't to work, she actually shared with us her tips of being organised, such as how to deal with various emails--sorting them out....
We had quite a few meetings for the past week, to discuss on the various admin matters that are need to be done. One good thing abt joing a new division is that we are able to set our rules and have more control over them.
Yah, mentioned that I got a laptop.Yah, they provide Futjisu Lifebook laptop for every one, and every bidy also gets a sleek optical mouse and thumb drive. Which I do think it's a wastage of $$ as not every one needs to use a thumbdrive everyday. The IT department are rather efficient, they had already generate the initial passwords for us, and all 3 of us had our laptops set up by the afternoon.
But, something happened that made us suspect that the IT perople are able to read our emails (from company's email account). My partner (the other MSO) whad sent a contact list stating our names, birthdates and telephone numbers among 5 of us. Yet soon after, the IT guy sent her an email, wishing her Happy Birthday (just happned her birthday was on that day). Well... he claimed that HR sent him an email, but he deleted that liao. Of cos we doubt him. And we stop sending private emails from our company emails account.
Food wise: Can you believe the 24 storey buidling don't have a canteen of its own. But they make up for it by having pantry at every level, and Amoy Food Centre and Maxwell Food Centre are just a stone's throw away from our office. Lot's of variety of food to choose from.
Colleagues wise: well a bad thing working with aunties is that they can be naggy and kaypoh. By the second day, the three aunties (one by one) bought up the topic of match-making us with the bachelors in our office. Duh. We two were like screaming " why you all 3 say the same thing??!!!". Well, I was slightly spared as I am younger than the other MSO.
I think the other MSO and I get a long quite well. It's such a coincidence that she had also worked for NTU (I was also working for NTU before Ij oined SPH Mag). She is one that will not claim credits for others' works and volunteers to help me out.
As days passed, we two find that the CSO was giving us a bit of trouble. Well, sort of expected it, as the CSO is of a lower appointment grade than us, she had 19 yrs of working experience and came to start work a month before us (a case of 倚老卖老). Though our boss had stated that the CSO report to my partner (the other MSO), she don't really treat her as a supervisor. My boss had instructed me to act as a back-up when the other MSO was on leave, and I'm afraid that the CSO won't "give me face" too.
Hmmmm, I had actually taken a pic of my work station on my digicam, but had not upload it yet. My desk size is half the size of my desk at my previous work place, so I can't put much decorations. Will post the pic when i have the chance
Am having "黄昏 withdrawal syndrome". I used to listen to the song on my iMac itunes at my previous workplace everyday. Then I thought i have that mp3, it turned out that the Windows Media Player cannot support that file's format. And the original CD I had is copy controlled, hence can't be played on the CD drive. Grrrrrrrhhh.
