Bakers Inn

Oh yah, here's a short review the experience at Bakers Inn yesterday (28 Feb, Sat)

When with a friend for dinner at that place. Too bad when we reached there, the stripes cushion bench seat were all taken. So we sat at the table with the designer "Ghost Chair" ( a transparent chair-- if I'm not wrong, it's designer by Philip Stark)

I didn't ate the main course, but ate a slice New york Cheese Cake and Black Forest cake, with a glass of mango Soda. Mango soda too pricey at $4.20, for it's nothing special, just add some mango essence to soda.

The presentation of New York Cheese cake is nice, a red thin layer of cream on top with a slice of strawberry and a berry. Very cheesey. I still prefer the NYDC cheesecake though.

Blackforest cake was just "alright", my friend commented that the blueberry taste like medicine, while i find the side layer of cream too thick.

One thing we find it unfair, since they are a rather upmarket bakery, their service should be up to standards. Yet they have this notice that they aren't service any glass of warm or ice plain water, and if we want, we could order a bottle of mineral water.
Duh. even MacDonalds also serve plain water upon request, why can't they afford it.

Admission criteria and Food for thought

I dunno i shall be glad or angry when i read the news abt the new university admission criteria this year.
First, they scraped off the SAT test. Damn it, I had spent more than $240 for the 3 SAT tests I took over the past year.Took more than once, so that i can have a higher grades and higher chance to enter the U. if the are scraping the SAT this year, why do they post a notice at the end of the Last year saying all applicants have to sat for the SAT , and the last SAT test results they accepted is the Jan 2004 test paper.
Duh!

Now for Poly grads' applications, the admission criteria is as follow:
Poly results --75% (used to be 65 % as SAT accounts for 25%)
O'level results -- 20% (used to be 15%)
CCA -5%

that's something i worry, cos my Poly results are mostly Bs than As.
But one thing good is that the diploma can be applied to any discipline. Hmm more choices, but still have to depend whether yu meet their criteria first mah.
just pray lor.

Food for thought:
ok, mentioned my friend sent me this:
There are people who may be suitable for you at different stages in your life. It's really the timing, circumstances and the way the relationship grows that leads a person to the point where he/she decides that that is the person they'd like to marry.

so, if a couple after years of courting, and circumtances changes, blame it on the events and circumstances that they break off and will not get marry. then where does the love comes in. I always thought that if two people are really in love, they will accept the other no matter under what circumstances.

I am actually quite disheartened when my gal friend, who have been with her Bf for 6 years told me now that somehow, she got a feeling that she might not marry him in the end. She even mentioned that, her feelings for her bf had die down a little, but her bf still treat her and love her so much. we all thought that they make the perfect couple and will be receiving their wedding invitation in a couple of years.

Then my colleague told me that for most of her friends, those who had a long term relationships (abt 4-6 yrs) had broken up, yet after that, they met their "The ONE" and gotten married within 2 years of courting.

So is it the circumstances that affect the relationship? Especially for those couple who start dating ard 18-20s, most of them will have a change in attitudes, goals and preferences after they entered the working world. Then they have different expectations for their partners. Which is why most will not get married to each other in the end.

Am i right to explain that way?

JT: i dunno if you are reading this, but please take care when u drive. Cos i dreamt of u involved in car accident last night. Sometimes my dreams are 80% accurate. just hope that this one isn't.

26 Feb 2004

hmmm, another friend send me this

24 Feb 2004

Tue 24 Feb
Going to talk abt food (again!)...
afternoon, went with a few colleagues to Crystal Jade Restaurant in Toa Payoh for lunch as boss coming back from her leave tomorrow. Hence grabbed the last chance for a longer lunch break. (we ate at canteens nearby for the past few days)

Though Crystal Jade is a Chinese restaurant, the interiors of the Toa payoh branch reminds me of Japanese homes.

Service: Depending on which waiter/ waitress serving you. We were served by more than 4 different people through out the meal. The first 3 were satisfactory, the last waitress was very attentive. She noticed that my colleague was drinking her medicine at the end of the meal, and as we were drinking Chinese Tea, she asked my colleague if she need a glass of plain water.

We also didn't expect that the Chinese tea we ordered is free flow as it is only $0.80 per cup ( the soft drinks are $1.50 and not free-flow)
and the waitress kept on refilling them everytime it is half-empty

Food: We ate dumpling noodles, pork rib noodles, steam xiao long bao and a few dishes of dim sum. Servings were rather small . We felt that that the dim sum at Geylang are of better value as the prices there are cheaper and their fried dumplings are much tastier.

But Crystal Jade has nice desserts. The durian pudding which I ate, although cost $4 for a small cup, is really value for money. Cos often, the puddings served in restaurants are "artificial durian pudding" which has a jelly-like texture. Here, you can see large pieces the durian flesh in the pudding, and it's texture is like durian mousse . My colleague had a bowl of Herbal Jelly and had no complains abt it.

By the way, Yummy Guide (a food guide published by SPH Magazines in collaboration with Channel U) is out on the shelves. Am contemplating to buy this $2 food guide...

Recent happenings

Here's the events/incidents that happened over the past few days

Friday 20 Feb 04
Today, wore a pink tank top and this glittery wraparound skirt to work, which one of my colleague describe as "eclectic", cos I never wear anything of that casual-resort style before.
one of the colleagues said to me "it's such a relief seeing you wearing colours again'.
yeah, as a form of respect and to follow the customs, my family had been wearing those dark, somber colours (black, bark blue, brown or grey) for the past 49 days. Actually we can start wearing colours after 8 feb, but as my mum still continue to wear those darks colours after the 49th day, I also followed until seeing her start wearing a colourful printed shirt on Thur.

******************
A colleague of mine, whom i can consider her as "friend" mention something "weird" to me.
Cos yesterday I had forwarded one of those interesting emails with pics attachment to my office email account, so that I can then forward them to my colleagues. Hence when i sent the email, it still have the signature i used with my singnet account. My signature is a quote that reads:
"Falling in love with someone isn't always going to be easy... Anger... tears... laughter.. It's when you want to be together despite it all. That's when you truly love another. I'm sure of it."
--Keiichi Morisata

this was what my colleague DJB said :"You know. I was so shocked when I saw the email from you and was wondering why could you have my signature. Then i realised u are using the same quote that i use as my signature in my personal yahoo email account."

"Maybe you two are fated to be friends.' another colleague, C said.
Yah. Such as coincidence, that we both use the same quote for years in our personal email account.

Sat 21 Feb 2004
well, in short, i could say today was a long but enjoyable day.
Morning, went to help out in my club's event. had to reach Orchard at 7.20am in the morning.

A friend asked me to accompany her to her school as she need to interview some people for her report in the evening. As i had nothing planned , so went with her.
but then since the event ended ard 1pm, which means we were free for the whole afternoon,so went for an impromptu KTV sesson. Haha, just the two of us singing KTV for 3 hrs.

One thing though, my voice was very bad as I having lots of phlegm , so was sing with a heavy nasal voice (bi2 ying1hen3 zhong4). but nevermind lah, just treat it as a warm-up, cos tomorrow will be singing karaoke again with my bunch of "sisters" (whose singing skills are rather good).

As for the trip with my friend to her school (a tertiary institution) for her interview.. well, i can say the students-in-charge she interviewed are so warm and hospitable that they really made me feel so 受宠若惊(shou4 chong2 ruo4 jing1). i was just accompanying her, and was the one writing the report for their play, yet they also pay attention to me, such as carrying our bags, asking us if we need any drinks, getting chairs for us to sit while the rest of the people involved in the play were sitting on the floor. When I stood up to help my friend and one of the girls from the musical group sat on my chair, someone must had noticed i was standing while waitch their rehearsal and then one guy brought a chair to me and insisted that I be seated. Before we left, the producer of the play, even asked us how many free tickets we would like and they can arrange for that.

I told my friend, the people I interviewed in the past were not so warm as them. Some of them were even so awkward abt being interviewed that it was difficult to get the details from them.

i even asked my friend whether did she think they are really that warm and hospitable in nature or they were nice to us cos she is writing on their play and giving them publicity. She felt that they are really that warm in nature.

Ok Ok. Maybe it;s just that i am so accustomed to the cold attitude of Singaporeans that I doubt those students.
But then, from what i know, one of them isn't a local, and maybe all those that my friend interviewed are not Singaporeans too.

Maybe that why's they are not so cold or ignorant as typical Singaporeans

************
Sun 22 Feb 2004.
KTV session with my bunch of "sisters" turn out to be one 'sis" and her friend (a guy, who is rather unfriendly), as the other gal cannot make it today.

Haha, yesterday's warm-up session did help as I sang better today (cos i purposely choose those songs I am more confident & familiar with) somemore, sing in front of a stranger, must not "lao-kui".

What I am going to say may sound bad, but i really felt uncomfortable then as the presence of that guy really spoilt our (my friend and i) chance for "sister bonding".

Took my leave after the karaoke session as i need to go to Spotlight to buy some handicraft items. Went shopping for my friends' birthday gifts for a short while before going back home for dinner.

just for fun tests

been surfing online and play this harmless test. here's my results

Which Royalty Are You? Find out! By Nishi.

You are a Baroness!
Spirited, Captivating, Stunning!

You are a woman of worldly wisdom and experience. You are sensitive, protective (maybe even motherly), you are highly respected and praised. Your gentility and grace always shine through. You have a very beautiful moral nature that defines who you are. You are a woman others seek to befriend and they would never want to cross you.

Which Woman of Beauty Are You? Find out! By Nishi.

You are a Forest Beauty!
Peaceful, Calm, and Quiet,
On the outside at least
But hidden within you is a
Rich complex personality
With many sides, capable of
Many aspects of the self!

Work done and one more song

well, felt a bit relieved as had managed to clear some work for the past 24 hrs.
At work, had finally got the chance to use the Art Director's computer as he is on leave. So managed to type the legal letters and burn CDs to be sent out as compliments. Was still having bad cough, hence was breathless when i ran around the office. Seems like i have to skip this Sun Hip hop class liao.

Hmm, still have to prepare quite a few budgets when i go to work later.

Just cleared my section of a feature report on Heelys. Didn't write such reports (in Chinese) for abt 3 yrs,and I seems to have difficulty phrasing some sentences.

haha going for KTV this Sun. Mostly like, the song i want to try singing won't be out yet as it's rather new.

Why i like this song, guess there are some parts which I can relate to:
1) 你出现我身边 像个奇迹发生 没想到会是你 让我如此失魂
2) 想给你全世界 一刻我都不愿等
3) 因为你有你的人生 我有我的旅程 在前方还有 等着你的人 -- well, I let him go in the end, cos i think he might meet a better person in the future
4) 但记得在你孤单的时候 我会伸出双手 我会是你朋友 到永久 --- this one best relate to my philosophy of "still being friends after break up".

你是我心中一句惊叹

really like the title of this song sang by Elva Hsiao 萧亚轩.
你是我心中一句惊叹 ( ni3 shi4 wo3 xin1 zhong1 yi4 ju4 jing1 tan4)-- if loosely translated, is "Your are the exclaimation in my heart."

Often, we describe our love ones as objects, such as "apple of the eye', "angel"..., seldom see people describing them as pronunciation.

oK Here's the lyrics ( too bad i can't get the mp3)

The "C" and "MC"

"C" is for Car.
Oh yeah, didn't we learn that in preschool?
Well, haha, just have to mention (in case for future need to refer), that my Dad finally gotten his new car- a silver Hyundai Sonata on Tue 10 Feb. Car plate start with "SFF"-- say goobye to the "SCK".
hmm actually i would prefer if he bought Mazda-- to me Mazda's had a nicer streamline.

Come to think of it, this is his own first-hand car in abt 10 years. Before this Hyundai, he was driving this second-hand Proton Wira afer the second-hand Mercedes (car plate start with "E") always broke down. He bought the second-hand cars as he had switched to another company which do not provide cars for employees dealing with sales. His former employer provided him with a Hyundai.

hmmm, maybe that's why he choose a Hyundai again this time.
Me not an expert on car. After doing some researching , found out that my Dad's Sonata is Sonata LX , 2.7 L, not the base 2.4L Sonata, as 2.7 l Sonata LX has leather seating surfaces, woodgrain accent interior (around the radio compartments and gauge cluster). Looks like some idea borrowed from nissan Celfiro. Actually its shape look like a Jaguar too!

The best thing i like abt Dad new car's is its quiet engine. His previous Proton 's engine is so loud that u can hear the VRRRRRRM sound in the car, especially when he is speeding . Nope not that my dad's driving technique is bad, it's really the engine's fault. Even my brother also notice that when my dad need to start up the Proton, he had to step on the accelerator to start up too!
Ok just "cut and paste" some comments from a review on Sonata
:
"The base Hyundai Sonata is well equipped for its price. It comes standard with air conditioning, side-impact airbags, AM/FM/CD audio system, rear defroster, power mirrors, power locks with keyless remote, power windows, cruise
control, remote fuel door and trunk releases, 60/40 split folding rear seat, variable intermittent wipers, four-wheel-disc brakes, gas-charged shock absorbers, and 15-inch all-season tires. A 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with a five-speed manual transmission is standard. A four-speed automatic transmission ($800) is optional.

Sonata GLS is a V6 model with a higher level of interior trim. The 2.7-liter V6 comes with an automatic transmission, and the car is fitted with high-performance tires on 16-inch alloy wheels for improved handling. The GLS is upgraded with deluxe cloth upholstery, woodgrain accents, better carpet, an upgraded stereo, an improved center console, dual map lights, and rear cup holders. It also comes with heated mirrors and a power antenna.

Sonata LX is the luxury model, and comes with all of the above plus leather seating surfaces, automatic climate control, and an eight-way power driver's seat.

The Hyundai Sonata is handsome. It's expressive without being oppressive with graceful lines and rich details that one would expect on a more expensive automobile. The Sonata's overall shape suggests the feline form of a Jaguar; while its sophisticated headlight treatment could have been borrowed from a Mercedes-Benz. It's better looking than the Kia Optima, which shares the Hyundai's architecture.

The waterfall grille is formal but not pretentious. Like jewelry tastefully worn, chrome enhances rather than distracts from the Sonata's appearance. Chrome is well placed around the grille, over the doors and on the trunk. The bold headlight design is more than stylish. The small low-beams are halogen projector lamps that produce a uniformly bright pattern, and the complementary high beams are bright.
The Sonata's pull-type door handles feel solid. The doors close with a solid thunk. Sonata comes standard with a keyless remote fob
The ignition switch is on the dash, more convenient than having it on the steering column. The GLS and LX also have a two-compartment center armrest.
The upper and lower portions of the instrument panel are dressed in contrasting shades of vinyl. Gauges are clearly marked. A splash of artificial wood around the center stack of the GLS and LX won't fool anyone, but looks somehow appropriate. A frame of burnished aluminum surrounds the automatic shifter quadrant, with the Shiftronic manual-override slot alongside. Illuminated manual-shift indicators were added for 2003.

The seat itself is contoured for two passengers, with a folding center armrest between them, but Hyundai has provided three-point seat belts for three people. Map pockets on the backs of the front seats add useful storage space.

The Hyundai Sonata cruises nicely, with a smooth ride and good stability at high speeds. The available 2.7-liter V6 provides quick acceleration from a standstill.

When equipped with the V6, the Sonata accelerates smoothly and without great drama. It idles quietly, but not silently. Hyundai doesn't have the most powerful V6 among mid-size sedans, so the Sonata would probably lose a drag race to a Toyota Camry V6 or Honda Accord V6. But the Sonata costs $4,500-$5,500 less than the Camry or Accord."

MC
Well... had to take the first MC of the year today. Was having a slight cough yesterday, but self medicate. Today reached office, as hours passed, really feel that my body can't hang on any longer. There's this feeling of whole body aching, the symptom where you about to have a fever soon. So after lunch went to orchard to see company doc and got a 0.5 day MC.

Hmm just saw my horoscope for today while checking emails:

"Have you been taking care of your body at all this month? Have you been watching what you eat and making sure that you're getting enough sleep and exercise? If you have, today you will feel that you have your life well in hand. On the other hand, if you haven't been taking care of yourself, you may feel a little under the weather... A twinge here? A pang there? Lethargic? You know what to do!"

Alamak!. Bad things sure so accurate hor.......

Yah, I admit, I had not been taking care of myself. When i was in my poly, I used to sleep abt 8 hrs each day, When i start working, it decreases to abt 6 hrs on weekdays but sleep longer on wekends. Recently, was only having abt 3-4 hrs of sleep daily. try to make up for the lack of sleep on weekends, but with activies lined up on weekends morning, i could not sleep as much as i want to.

"Shouldn't singlehood means you are having more freedom, more time for yourself?" my friends asked. "Then whyare you so busy. Or u make yrself so busy?"

Erhmmmm, how shall i put it... I don't even know the answers .

Gatherings and Irish Coffee

Haha, just now was feeling slightly high due to Whisky but now rather awake due to the coffee.
well, the fact is I had finally got a real taste of Irish coffee at my poly Class gathering over dinner at Terra (Bugis Junction) in the evening. I had tried Irish coffee at other places, but those are non-alcoholic.
This is is the "real stuff" man. the moment I was about to take a sip, can already feel the warmth of whisky.

back to the topic on class gathering. Ha two class gatherings on two consecutive days. Sat was with my Pri school friends. we went back to our pri school to take pics.

10yrs din't went back, it had changed a lot. Our old premises was going to be demolish soon and the students are all relocated to the new buildings beside the old premises. We "trespass" into the old building, wanting to take a pic in our old classroom on the 4th floor. Too bad the door leading to the upper floors was locked.
Well, we the gals can recalled where our basketball court, badminton court, long jump and monkey bar areas used to stand. The guys simply forgot. this proved that girls pay more attention than guys.

As for today (sun), had a gathering with my poly ex classmates and our "god daughter" at Parco Bugis junction. time really flies. Pur god daughther is turning 3 yrs old this year and now she can communicate with us. She was rather shy at first but warmed up soon. By the end of the day, at the fountain, she was telling me how she liked it when the water spurt out so tall.

gotta end here. eyes getting tired @@

What? 4D number har?
Nah. That was my SAT score which I just retrieve online. Hmm maybe can buy the 4 numbers for tomorrow 4D.. hahha. Well, friends who know me know I hardly gamble.
Well, this is the best score out of the 3 tests I had taken so far (Maths 660, Verbal 580), so I guess I will have to submit it for my application to local University. Hope can make it. I want to study! I want to go back to being a student this year!

quick run-through over events in past few days

Ok, here's a quick run-through

2 Feb (Mon)
Tried out the new Singing World KTV in Bishan. Its interior decor is similar to the Party World KTV at Hello Orchard, after all they belong to same management.
As it is a new place, the sound system rather good. Seems like the rate also cheaper than the Sing Together KTV at Bishan CC nearby. Wonder why the difference in rates even though they were handled by same management.
Looks like we will be going more often to Singing World in future :)

3 Feb (Tue)
Woke up with a strange feeling, then realised that I had dreamt of him again. Strange, I wasn't thinking of him that day, yet he appeared in my dream. The last time I dreamt abt him was that I received an SMS from him , saying " I am married". That's an absurd dream to me, cos I know he 's not the type who will sms to his friends telling abt his personal life out of the blue. He is wanting to let the whole world know, he should be smsing " i am getting married" before his wedding day. Besides, he is not the type who will sms to his ex to boast abt his 'achievement'.

Anyway, the dream was strange, strange in a way that 50% of it are true in reality.
I dream of me standing at the bustop of Ngee Ann Poly and saw him walking past me, up to camp (weird that i know he's going back to camp in the dream). I wanted to called him, but didn't, cos he seems to carry this "aura of loneliness" .

我只能看着他孤寂的背影,渐渐离我远去......

In reality, i was a student of Ngee Ann Poly, and there's an army camp nearby, but he wasn't from that camp.....
However, if I am not wrong, last year, he mentioned he will be going for reservist in Jan 2004, but that's in overseas. (Hmm why it became "distorted")

If only I can interpret dreams.......

4 Feb (Wed)
I almost lost my temper when this mad old auntie walk past me and scolded me "stupid" on the bus, all because I was the first person in the queue for the bus but board the bus a few seconds later as I was waiting for the queue beside to clear first.

Auntie arh, so many seats of the bus, u scared u no seats meh. I already so tired after work yet kenna scold by u. U have the right to scold me meh, after all u also never tell me to move up. Besides the bus captain also never sound his horn to prompt me to board the bus.

Contemplated walking up to her and pretending to "accidentally" hit her when I am alighting. But nah, I 'm not wicked lah.
I'm not that innocent. When the thought of the Million-dollar jackpot TOTO on the coming Thur came into my mind, I was then like cursing her in silence that she'll never strike any 4D or Lottery in the rest of her life.

hahaha.

Reached home, decided to "化生气为力量" --used all the energy i had to practise Heelys.
Made a slight improvement. Can glide for more than 2 secs each time, still got a far way to go. Must work hard.

1 Feb 2004

十年了.....
Nope, I am not going to mention Eason Chan'S song "十年" (ten years)
After 10 yrs, finnaly attended a Pri 6 Class renunion on 1 Feb at Pastamania Bishan.
If not for friendster, I would never be able to trace back my ex-classmate's ( who's the organiser) contacts.

Was rather surprise when she mentioned through Friendster messages that she had been reading my articles which appeared in ZaoBao and Friday Weekly, she even look at the group photos to confirm it was me. But she couldn't contact me as she don't have my details.

Ok back to topic, abt 10 people attended. Couldn't recognise most of them initially (and some could't recognised me too) as in my mind, the last time I see them, we were all abt the same height. Now the guys have become taller (i mean VERY tall), some of them lost their baby fats on their faces. some guys had become so muscular. For the girls, most of them are thinner, but that's very typical right.

Spent abt 5 hrs at PastaMania,. fortunately wasn't being chased out by the staff for we were rowdy at times, especially when we laugh at the jokes targeted at the "feng shui master" -- YF. PT had saw him setting up a stall at suntec funfair, dealing with fortune telling, and JR confirmed that he has been doing some Fengshui biz. Somehow it leaded to someone suggesting him having to write adverts on toilet cubicles stating " for Life Altering S** Techniques (LAST), please call this number 9********* (his mobile number)."

In summary, here's some interesting finds
1) quite a few classmates had changed their names, dunno why...
2) Yf, who use to be the class clown as is the one being laugh at, not the joker) is still being picked on and laugh at, cos he is so blur and dun get our words at times
3) two of the guys ( YF & WL) are now roomates in University hostel. Apparently, they bumped into each other during the day registration and one aske the other if he want to share hostel room. Keke, so they were being teased as being "gays" by the other guys.
4) WL "bao-toh" that he was awoken up by YF once at night as YF being rejected by a girl during the day, had suddenly hit his hands on the mattress, asking "Why why (wei shen me, wei shen me)." in his dreams. Must be he cannot accept the rejection.......
5) two pretty girls had went for SAF interview. The guys had mixed reactions. Some want them to come and be their "madam" so they (the girl) can take care of them, While others tried to dissuade them by saying their smooth complexion will be spoilt by the "camo sticks".
6) PT can still remember the"cheeky dirty songs" that the two boys kept on singing then-- "qiao2 qi1 gu1 niang" and "She Loo Loo" songs. The lyrics were composed by them after watching some TV programs. Tso don;t think that kids are all so innocent.
7) We all remembered those days where we played "Poison ball' , having "interclass poison ball match", running to book court to play "Poison ball' during recess time.
8) The guys remembered whom they fought with.
9) We all have difficulty trying to recall our last class sitting position, except for J.C., whom we all remembered he had to sit near the door becos he was so naughty then.
10) We can still remember the nicknames we've gotten. Somehow they stick.
11) We remember those teachers that were fierce more than those we didn't hate.
12) we remember those who have siblings in the same school.

mmm should be all. There are plans to go back to our old school premises to take photo b4 the old blocks were demolish. See when lor.
