Name: [Harmonie Wong] Date of Birth: [17 Aug 1981] Gender: [Female] Location: [Singapore] Email: [harmonie_wong@hotmail.com] Description: [Not going to spend time here introducing myself. To my dear friends, relax, I didn't change my name to "Harmonie Wong". If you hadn't read my first entry, it's just a nick. However, there is a story behind. "Wong"was chosen because of family's history with the surname. As for "Harmonie", it's because of a numerology pairing with "Wong". You can read more abt it in my 1st entry. I know that the online world is not 100% secure, so won't be revealing too much. & my dear friends, rest assured that I'll not be mentioning yr real life names in this blog.]
Regina came with her fan (i tot she supposed to come in a 丫鬟 costume?) and Nana had a chinese drum with her.
As usual, i had to go around taking group photos:
It's still the SPH Mag gang that have the best pose!
While looking through the pictures, I could not help noticing something:
U know ther's a saying that it's not good to take pic in groups of 3. In Twos seems so lonely, maybe that's why we were in groups of fours. F4!!!! (Female 4)
More pics:
To tie-in with the Oriental theme, I have a basket of LongevityPeaches or 寿桃, sponsored by the SPH Mag Gang. These are not the normal 寿桃 which you often see stacking on a red plate. These are from The Cathay Restaurant leh. Nana said that they got "class" one.
In addition, there's a chocolate birthday cake sponsored by TXYs.
But seems like the 寿桃 received more attention from the group.
As usual lah, sang birthday song , made a wish then cut the cake. Someone suggested I should try cutting the 寿桃. Guessed some might expect the lotus paste filling to ooze out. But nothing happened, cos the giant 寿桃 is just an empty husk.
I like this pic cos can see the eye glitter and false lashes. hmm someone commented that I seems to be praying rather than wishing.
After 3 hours of playing boardgames, it's time to pack up.
yet i saw this group attempting to do a "881" poster pose.
(in case you are wondering, Songyu is posing as the chicken which ah Du is holding)
I also joined in the fun, but was um-chio-ing.
With that , we vacate the place. Heard that some of the have post-gathering gathering which last till the next morning.
Grabbed a small piece of cake (but no time to consume all) and a roll of red thread before we proceed to meet YF at the MRT Station. Gor, my helper had already arrived at Settlers and was chasing us. Yeah Yeah, We have only 30 min to decorate.
Initial plans to put up 2 rows of lanterns from the mid of the door had to be scrapped as the staff mentioned that the door had to be closed. The helpers did a good job in managing what ever I have and the end result is:
(seems like my guests having fun with the décor.)
Dress code for this year is 中国风. Guests were encouraged to put on their cheongsam, ma-guas, pigtail caps. Though I hinted some can get by with clothes with a hint of oriental element (dragons, big flowers) or oriental accessories.
YF and Jiak-Lor-Mee supposed to be the disciplinary mistress and master; but I guess this year forfeit is too simple that they dun bother much.. Due to me unable to get hold of flower hankies, the only forfeit for those who disobey the dress code is to pose with fans.
As for the pic of Ah Du doing a forfeit, that was for the game he played with the Monsters & Affiliates table.
As for those who took up the dress code challenge:
(minus flutterby actully, cos she did not wear cheongsam, but the pic will not look good if I etch her out) The good thing abt have a gathering at Settlers is that guests can keep themselves entertained with the boardgames (actually also consists of card games lah) provided, hence I need not planned much on the entertainment.
And what it worse that this CD contains more “忪”songs. My sis and I were giving each other "what the hell" looks when we heard the lyrics of one of songs that goes :
"老公 老公 我爱你,尔弥陀佛 保佑你,愿你有个好身体"
Someone, save my ears please.
********************* Speaking of 香水有毒. I had a real life encounter last week. And I am not exaggerating. I knew that I am allergic to some fragrances -- all through "incidental experiences". Lavender makes me sneeze non stop,; lemon grass make me puke.
What happened was that within 1 min a guy wearing some cologne walked into the room, my nose start to gave way, and soon i felt queasy and start to puke. My friend found out that he was using Givenchy.
Tried to find out what are the notes of that particular cologne from the net, but unable to find. ..(Wanted to see what was it that causes the allergy).
Guessed I am very easy poison with these “bio-hazardous chemicals".
Being quite an IT idiot, i dunno much abt GPS technology when he mentioned that. So on the way home, he switched on his phone's GPS function even though he does not need a map to navigate around. Quite interesting , to see how accurate the feature is. Even small lanes also appeared on the screen as we passed by them. Can even choose to have the voice command in English, Chinese or Cantonese. Could not really understand Cantonese , though i manage to grasp what it mean when the command said "zhor-bin".
Two things I noted from this "trial":
a) GPS connect was cut off as we were passing through the underground tunnel. He mentioned that to stay connect in such areas, would need to change the setting to AGPS but that comes at cost. Meaning, need to pay for usage of AGPS. b) just as I asked him if the map will still be shown on the screen when a calls come in, his phone start ringing and even though he din pick it up, the GPS navigation was disconnected and only connected again after the call ends. There was time lag when the system need to recalculate your position and the distance when it reconnects automatically.
I can't imagine what would happened if i am the driver and I never do my homework and solely rely on the GPS navigation and someone sms or call at the "crucial point" when i am wondering which way to turn when approaching a junction.
He mentioned that I can consider buying this model when my current contract expires. I was wondering why he would recommend me to bu a navigator phone when he knows that I don't drive (or rather, Can't drive). Later it dawned on me that I have seen the recent TV ad for this Nokia 6110 , and in the ad, there was this man dressing up in an astronaut costume, using the navigator function to provide him with the directions to walk to his friend's house party.
I know i dun have a sense of directions at times lah!!! Grhhh
3) It's National Day by the time I'm writing this. Happy Birthday Singapore!
I was listining to 933 last week and heard the DJs did a spoof on this year National Day song "there's no place I'd rather be", sung by Kit Chan. I nearly spit out my saliva when i heard the lyrics of their so call "chinese version" of the song.
Finally, manage to find the lyrics and their MV of this so-called chinese version of "There's no place I'd rather be", which is "我的家就在这里"
