blackout on tue night
yah. just experienced the first blackout of my life, the first blackout ever since my family shifted to bishan 14 years ago.
Weel, to put it in nicer words, i was in the bathroom, doing "my business" when the light suddenly went out. Initially, i thought it was my bro,up to his midshief again as he always like to switch of the toilet lights purposely. Then i heard shouts from my block and the neighbouring block.
Heard some females voices screaming in fear, whereas the guys were shouting "Oih!"
Duh, agitated for what..... shout "oih" also no use mah.
well, i struggled to put on my clothes (wore them on the opposite side out instead) and came out to find my torchlight. Then realised that the batteries were flat and I don't have spare batteries. Want to listen to radio for info but my receiver was also down ( no battery).
Parents went to find big candles. As we never came across blackout before, they simply forgot where they put the big candles. By the time they found them and lit them up, the electricity surply had resumed.
Lesson learnt: must be prepared. ( yeah yeah, have to buy new batteries and candles )
anyeay, here's the news update from Straits Times:
Latest News | Updated June 29, 10.17 pm (Singapore time)
Sudden blackout in many parts of S'pore, power restored in some areas
SINGAPORE -- Many parts of Singapore was hit by a blackout at around 10pm on Tuesday night.
Readers called up The Straits Times Interactive at 10.15pm to say that the power failure affected areas like
Bishan, Serangoon, Joo Chiat, Bukit Batok, Jurong, Queenstown, Clementi, and even Holland Village.
But Toa Payoh, Pasir Ris and Woodlands were not affected by the power outage which lasted about 30 minutes.
Thirty minutes after the widespread blackout, lights were reported to have come back on in Changi, Serangoon North, Bishan, Clementi, Bukit Batok and Simei.
The power outage is believed to have been caused by a disruption in the supply of natural gas in Indonesia.

Jia gan-tang
arghhh. i have been jia gan-tang these few days.
Literary, i mean......
Well, for the sake of those who duno, "jia gan-tang" (eat potatoes) refers to those chinese who dunno how to speak Mandarin well, but converse well in english.
well, for me, i seems liked getting addicted to this instant mashed potatoes that my sis recommended. Even bought a pack (containing 10 small packets) for my own consumption.
yah, so starchy.
Just hope my figure won't turned to be like a potato. :P

just try...
had been quite busy these few days. Actually wanted to write more abt the Malaysia but I guess i'll do it later.
Well, on 17th , I was rather upset when I went to NTU website to look for details regarding appeal of admission, and found that the dateline was 15 June.
It was only on Sat that I send email to the office of admission, asking if I can still appeal.
heng arh, they replied and said I could send in the appealthrough normal post by 26 June.
well, i was a little apprehensive, cos I know my written english isn't that good, to write a convincing appeal letter is such a chore. So how? Finnaly thought that since i was given anotehr chance, so just try lor.
Spend hrs writing it, then forward it to my friend "Har gao', who is a writer for her to "touch up" the letter.
I am also indebted to my ex-colleague, who asked me to send the soft copy to her, and she will print it and send the letter through internal mail, hence less worries of the letter not being able to reach the office in time.
有那么多人的帮助,希望这回能成功.......

Games played in camp
Survival
There are 5 rounds, and each round, 2 with the least score are eliminated after playing 10 mini games. Though the games were simple, but image how much effort was put into-- coming up with 50 games, and preparing the materials for more than 100 campers.
Did catch much of the games played, as I being a "senior", went out for
lunch and shopping with the others before 12 noon. But there's a game which really caught our attention:
Everyone was given a can of isotonic drink, and had to place the can tilted without toppling over. How to achieve this? Well, you'll have to find the equilibrium by drinking away the correct amount of water from the can. The fun part was, the campers had to hold some water in their mouth, in case the drink off too much. (yah quite disgusting to imagine one spit back the water into the can)
By the way, I tried playing the game in front of my colleagues during lunch on Mon. After the initial seconds of amazement displayed on their faces, they frantically asked me to put back the can in upright position, for fear it will spill over. No one even dare to try it on their own.
Boo……
To tie in with the sentimental theme, different games which place emphasis on the six senses were played on the third day. After getting some "tip-off" from the map committee, we decide to check out the station "Cry".
There, two competing groups were given a bottle caps, and they have
filled the bottle cap up with tears within 20 mins.
Guys-- as expected, find it difficult to cry, or to shed tears. Some tried to star at the sun, to feel pain in their eyes to stimulate tears. While some try very hard to cry, but then burst out laughing.
Anyway this is an interesting game. Really diffrent from those usual camp games that Singaporeans played.

当老虎遇上ʨ×Ó
Ok, in case you cant see the chinese words, it actually means "when the tiger meets the lion", which was the theme of the malaysian camp.
However, the main theme was actually a movie theme, as the different groups were name after popular movies, and instead of the usual the campfire night, it was actually a 'oscar award' ceremony, to give out prizes to the best leading actor/ actress, best supporting actor/actress for the performance they put up on the 2nd day of camp.
Hmm had to find a way to group the anedotes.
1) Corruption
yah. I'm am not afraid to say it. One the way to the campsite, we had encountered with the corrupted Malaysian customs officers who taxed us on the T-shirts we had brought along to for exchange (with the Malaysian students reporters). If it's really government tax, why is it that they could give us a discount of 10 ringgit when asked if they could charge us cheaper?
2) Bubble Gum
Thanks to the long coast ride, I had finally learnt the skill of blowing bubble gum. Yes at the first stopover, the first thing I rushed to buy was bubble gum.
Typical Singaporean right?
3)爱的鼓励
as expected, we were welcome by the malaysian student reporters (or 学记) cheers-- 爱的鼓励.
and it goes like this
ai~ de gu li
(clap clap clapclapclap clapclapclapclapclapclap).
though we had learnt a few more versions a few years ago, such as 爱的伍思凯, 爱的亲亲,
they had invented a few more versions as years passed
A) 爱的梁静茹
clap x 7
听不到 听不到 听不到
B) 爱的周杰伦
clap x 7
你走开!
c) 爱的救伤车
clap x 7
bi-bo bi-bo
送他走 送他走
ok, shall talk abt the games and food in the next posting

Rejection
Reached home after a tiring day of dance practice (for the camp performance), saw the two letter-size envelopes with the NUS and NTU logos on the front table.
Uh-oh
My hear sank. Cos my friend told me that judging by the size of the envelopes, you will know the results. If u have received a A4 size envelope, that means u had been offered a place; a letter size envelope would mean you have received the standard rejection letter.
And true it is...

eat, eat & eat
Arhh, ate like a pig today..
Let's see, met up with WX to eat Coffee Club's mudpie. Upon reach the branch at Taka, saw that they had changed their menu and not serving fish & chips anymore. hence we settled for this big, sinful mudpie and a passiontea (with a scoop of ice-cream) to share before heading down to Estella at Far East plaza for the main course.
Had a plate of fried chicken rice set and a cup of mix fruit drinks each at Estella. Walked wrond Far East and then headed down to Suntec to visit the book fair.
Craved for Yammi Yoghurt, so shared a medium cup of Almond & Peach Yoghurt. Then my friend craved for apple crumble at Swensen. Walked to Plaza Singapura (at least we burned off some calories), and had the apple crumble ( which servings is for 2 pearson) and a baked rice.
Then received a phone call from brother, saying that Mum had already cooked my share of dinner and it's fried hokkien mee. So no choice had to go home and eat a few mouthful, or else will be scolded by mum for not eating her food.
Yah, feel slightly guilty for my gluttony. the only defence I can think of is that i am going for the Malaysia camp next week, so let me enjoy eating good food for now.
Extra note: ended my tuition with the Pri 4 kid (Sharon) yesterday. Dunno if i want to look for another one.
